Parents are being encouraged more than ever to get their children outdoors, so one mum was taken aback when her neighbours asked her to stop her kids from doing just that. The mother-of-two says her sons had been out playing for half an hour one Sunday evening when she received an angry text from her neighbours telling her to stop letting her kids play outside in their own back garden because they "didn't want to hear it".

The baffled mum took to Mumsnet to ask others whether they thought she was being unreasonable by allowing her children to play football and basketball in the garden. The neighbours, who are in their 50s, then said they were "telling, not asking" her to send her kids to the park instead.

She wrote: "My neighbours have sent me a couple of very unpleasant text messages telling me to stop my boys playing football in our garden as they don’t want to hear it. I don’t know what to do.
