Asher Gratt
Rabbi Asher Gratt is a distinguished educationalist, faith leader, and public advocate with over five decades of unwavering dedication to promoting parental rights, religious freedom, and educational integrity within the UK’s Jewish community and beyond.
Born in 1954 to Holocaust survivors—his father, a decorated British Army veteran of the Second World War—Rabbi Gratt’s life has been shaped by legacy, resilience, and a deep sense of mission. From the age of four through to graduation, he was educated in leading Haredi institutions across the UK. He went on to serve as a teacher in multiple Haredi schools and eventually became a school governor at the UK’s largest Haredi boys’ school.
A prolific educational author, Rabbi Gratt has written and published a wide range of textbooks used by thousands of Jewish students worldwide, with materials available in Hebrew, Yiddish, English, and French. All of his children were educated exclusively within the Haredi school system. Today, many of his descendants serve as successful professionals, educators, and community leaders.
In addition to his educational work, Rabbi Gratt is a successful entrepreneur, having built and sold a telecoms company employing over 300 staff to Centrica. A man of vision and communal dedication, he played a key role in acquiring landmark buildings for educational use across London. He was also a founding member of Hatzola, the voluntary emergency ambulance service, and served as an honorary officer of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations, reflecting his deep and ongoing commitment to faith-based civic engagement.
Rabbi Gratt remains a powerful voice for traditional values, community self-determination, and the rights of parents to educate their children in line with their religious convictions.
