Cllr Arnold (Arnie) Saunders

Arnold Saunders is a serving Conservative Councillor on Salford City Council, Greater Manchester, where he holds the positions of Deputy Leader and Chief Whip of the Official Opposition Group.

He contributes actively at both regional and national levels, serving on a Scrutiny Committee for the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) and on the Local Government Association’s (LGA) Safer and Stronger Communities Board.

With a distinguished background as a Minister of Religion, Arnold has taught in religious schools and served as a chaplain in hospitals, care homes, and the military, including the local Army Cadet Force. His commitment to public service also led him to stand as a Parliamentary candidate in the last two General Elections.

A passionate advocate for education, he represents his local authority as a School Governor at a Church of England state school and remains deeply engaged in issues affecting schools and families.

Arnold is married to Myrella, a dedicated schoolteacher with over 30 years of experience. Together, they have raised—and helped educate—five children.
