Educational Leader | Advocate for Parental Rights | Community Builder

Rabbi Asher Gratt is a seasoned educationalist, faith leader, and public advocate who has spent over five decades promoting parental rights, educational freedom, and religious liberty in the United Kingdom.

Born in 1954 to Holocaust survivors—his father a decorated British Army veteran of the Second World War—Rabbi Gratt was raised and educated in the UK’s Haredi (strictly Orthodox Jewish) school system. From the age of four through to adulthood, he attended some of the country’s leading Jewish religious institutions and later became a teacher, school governor, and principal of the UK’s largest Haredi boys’ school.

His contributions to education are both broad and enduring. He has authored and translated numerous educational textbooks, now taught to thousands of students around the world in Hebrew, Yiddish, English, and French. These works continue to shape the moral and intellectual development of new generations.

Rabbi Gratt has also demonstrated entrepreneurial success in the private sector. He founded and built a telecommunications company employing over 300 staff, which was later acquired by Centrica—one of the UK’s major energy firms.

Beyond the classroom and the boardroom, Rabbi Gratt has been an active civic leader. He was one of the founding members of Hatzola, a voluntary community ambulance service that has become a lifeline to many across London. As an honorary officer of the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations, he has worked to defend the rights of faith communities—especially in matters affecting religious schooling and burial practices.

He has played a key role in acquiring landmark properties for educational use across London and has been deeply engaged in efforts to preserve Jewish cemeteries across Europe—standing as a vocal defender of the dignity of the deceased.

For the past five years, Rabbi Gratt has been at the forefront of the national campaign to oppose governmental overreach in education, warning against policies that undermine family autonomy, religious liberty, and parental responsibility. His leadership is marked by a lifelong commitment to values, community, and the enduring principles that have shaped British civil society.
